Handmade in Japan, this suribachi mortar and pestle set brings together Mino ware ceramic and natural sansho wood. Variations in the wooden pestle’s grain give each piece its own character.

The bowl’s traditional ridged interior grips ingredients as you grind, helping release the aromas of sesame seeds, herbs and spices. The sansho wood pestle is gentle on the ceramic and comfortable to hold. Its simple form and natural materials harmonise with other Japanese kitchen tools and tableware, bringing warmth and care to everyday cooking.

Use it to prepare sesame dressings, fragrant pastes and small sauces, then bring the bowl straight to the table for serving.
